Hizbullah Secretary General:
American pressures will not force us give up resistance

The Secretary General of Hizbullah his eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah confirmed that Hizbullah is continuing with its choice because the reasons that forced it to resist have not fallen yet. His eminence said in an interview for the press, "The general developments in the region have lead to the conclusion that the American pressures will intensify on Lebanon and Syria during the next stage." However, he excluded the occurrence of any substantial changes in the stands of the two countries concerning the major issues. Nasrallah also said, "The Americans want to achieve the settlement in the region with all their might and on their own way, and after the operation "Desert Storm" they went to Madrid Convention and forced many issues. Now they have achieved much more than they ever expected by ousting Iraq from Kuwait. They also entered Baghdad and now they want to impose a settlement on the Palestinians through the roadmap and to pressurize everyone in order to succeed with this plan. Therefore, this pressure, which they have started, is prone for escalation."

His eminence indicated, "What happened in Iraq was unusual and forced enormous changes, and that the pressures acted by the US are now very serious and must be dealt with seriously." Then confirmed, "This does not mean that the main issues upon which the events are taking place in our region will witness any substantial changes, because "Israel" is still occupying the Arab lands."

Sayyed Nasrallah also said, "Prior to and after the occupation of Iraq, the "Israeli" occupation is continuing. And therefore, the resistance against this occupation is continuing, and there is nothing that encourages stopping this resistance in Lebanon or Palestine." He denied "the existence of any sort of official Lebanese or Syrian pressures on his party to take steps towards the American demands."

He also indicated, "The requisition of deploying the Lebanese army in the south is not realistic because the army is already there. On the other hand, if their aim was to disarm the resistance, this is unaccepted in Lebanon and Syria." Nasrallah also praised the "Lebanese official stands that have been informed to the American Secretary of State, Collin Powel concerning the resistance."

His eminence expected that "the resistance and the intifada in Palestine will continue" because "the Palestinians have no other choice," considering that "the problem with the Americans is that they want to withdraw all the playing cards of strength from the Arabs, and this issue is unacceptable."

Concerning the expected visit of the President of the Islamic Republic in Iran, Sayyed Muhammad Khatami next Monday, his eminence stressed on the importance of the visit and said, "The Lebanese people will receive Sayyed Khatami in a very proper way that will suite him and the good relation between the two countries, especially this is the first visit for an Iranian president to Lebanon since the erection of the Islamic republic there."
