At the Back Stage of Al-Hadath TV Program,Debate between Adam Ereli and Lebanese Student
arrival to the Studio of “Al-Hadath TV program (LBC)”, the Arab students were unable to argue on Air as needed with the US official spokesman Adam Ereli. Therefore, they continued the argument off air as promised by presenter Shaza Amr because the program time had ended.
After presenting the students to Ereli, he was surprised when the Lebanese student Zeinab Mansour asked him about the atrociousness of the US perpetrations during the July aggression, referring to the famous article of Seymour Hersh in which he exposed the scenario of the war with the US-Israeli coordination before and after the war.
The surprise came when Ereli described the US journalist as stupid! And when Mansour protested the sharp portray saying: how can you describe a journalist from your country in this manner? He replied: don’t you do this in your country? Mansour replied: no, we respect our journalists? The Lebanese student continued – referring to other sources and to the words of journalist Mohammad Hassanein Haikal who confirmed Hersh’s words – and Ereli replied that the two men were wrong. But when Zeinab Mansour surprised him referring to the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice who said during the aggression that the issue was tied to the difficult labor that will found for the birth of a new Middle East, Ereli evaded saying that Rice did not intend this meaning! Still, Ereli said: don’t you recognize the change which the US achieved in the region? Mansour replied that it was a change for the worst, and that in Lebanon you could do nothing but interfere in favor of Prime Minister Saniora. Ereli corrected her saying: we support Saniora’s government no more.
In other context of the current off air speech Ereli said: “The violent and resistance movements never changed anything on earth.” He was sharply interrupted by Mansour to say: the resistance in Lebanon liberated the land and freed the prisoners. Hence, he shook his head in confusion and didn’t know whether to admit or escape the situation he was facing. But he bypassed it saying: the resistance in Lebanon is similar to that in Iraq, illegitimate. Mansour replied saying your ally Prime Minister Saniora in Lebanon said it was a resistance, and would never give it any other names. Ereli smiled saying: what’s being said in public is different than what’s being said behind the doors.
