LEBANON : Camp clashes claim 4 more lives‎

was killed "when terrorists opened fire during the night on an army jeep" in the Abu Samra area of the northern port city, a military spokesman told AFP on Sunday.‏

He said seven soldiers were wounded in an ensuing three-hour firefight with members of the al-Qaeda-linked group Fatah al-Islam, whose gunmen are still engaged in fierce battles with the army in a nearby Palestinian refugee camp in Nahr al-Bared.‏

A police officer said a police sergeant, his daughter and his father-in-law were also found dead in a building in Abu Samra after the clashes.‏

"A chief warrant officer of the Interior Security Forces who was in a building in Abu Samra where militants being hunted by the army had holed up was found dead on Sunday morning," the officer said on condition of anonymity.‏

"Preliminary inquiries show that the officer, his daughter and his father-in-law were all killed by the militants during exchanges of fire with the army," he added.‏

Eighty soldiers have now been killed in the deadliest internal violence to afflict Lebanon since the 1975-1990 civil war.‏

A total of 151 people, including at least 51 militants, have died in the violence‏
