British forces in Iraq won`t relocate to Kuwait
emirate, in comments published on Wednesday.
"They transit in Kuwait. There are no agreements between the two countries to allow the forces to stay in Kuwait or establish a base," Sheikh Nasser said, describing the oil-rich Gulf state as "safe and stable".
About 5,500 British troops are now stationed in southern Iraq after a drawdown several months ago and on Monday, they pulled out from their last base in the port city of Basra.
The Sunday Times of London had reported that negotiations were underway to base some troops in Kuwait. Thousands of US, British and other coalition troops use several military camps in northern Kuwait as transit points while going to or leaving occupied Iraq, and also for training. Around 15,000 US troops are permanently stationed in Kuwait.
