Global Iraq confab opens in Turkey

A joint declaration is to be adopted by the ministers on Saturday. The Meeting seeks global support to end daily violence in Iraq.‏

The conference is looking for ways to stop terrorist activities in Iraq and the region. Iraq`s power crisis and the hardship of four million displaced nationals will also be focused on. A possible Turkish incursion into Iraqi Kurdistan is also high on the agenda.‏

Foreign ministers and senior government officials from the 17 countries including Iraq, its neighbors, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and the G8 began talks over dinner Friday evening and their consultations will continue through Saturday.‏

Iraq`s Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki and Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the head of the Arab League and the Organization of the Islamic Conference plus EU officials are scheduled to be in attendance.‏
