Lebanon postpones presidential vote

Lebanon postpones presidential vote

to put off the election until Nov. 21 "to give more time for consultations to reach agreement on a president," parliament speaker Nabih Berri said in a statement issued by parliament`s secretariat general on Saturday.‏

The decision followed a meeting last night between Berri, a member of opposition, and legislator Saad Hariri, leader of the pro-US parliamentary majority in Lebanon, according to AP.‏

A September session failed to reach quorum because of an opposition boycott, and an October attempt was postponed as negotiators struggled to find a compromise candidate.‏

Analysts say failure to reach a consensus candidate may lead to two rival governments in the country.‏
