2,000 dead and rising in Bangla`s Sidr
destroyed or damaged tens of thousands of homes, brought down power lines and wiped out vital crops in the country`s southern coastline late on Thursday night with 250 kmph winds and five meter high tidal waves.
The cyclone`s official government announced death toll had earlier been announced at 1,723, with the new figure of more than 2,000 giving dark emphasis that the toll is steadily rising with potentially thousands of bodies still to be found during relief and rescue operations.
A massive rescue operation is currently underway.
